I took my three year old to an indoor playground and a little bully boy came up and gave her a shove. She shoved back, which I'll allow. She's just defending her space, right? When he advanced on her again, she put her two adorable hands into fists and held her arms out stiffly to the sides like an old-fashioned boxer and started to pummel him with body blows (most of which, let's be honest, were not landing very heavily.)
I was fascinated, amused and oh, so curious to find out what would happen next. I was ready for some popcorn and a comfy seat because this was gettin' good. Then I remembered, I'm her mom and social customs would dictate that I stop the offending behavior and teach my toddler about the follies of violence. Being a mom can be such a bummer!
