Pyrate at 6

Pyrate turned six yesterday. She celebrated with her summer camp friends by sharing homemade brownies and then with family at BJ's where she enjoyed her very own pizookie. Sunday she will have a Halloween themed party (her idea, of course) that should rival all other parties in terms of creativity and unusual-ness.

Pepper said she wanted to get her sister a sign and a balloon for her birthday. So we did just that. The sign read, "I love you so much. I love you best of all." Pepper was super excited to present her sister with these gifts after summer camp.

Pyrate is a lovely, smart, unique, complicated and darling little girl. She can read anything and right now is into a series of chapter books called the Magic Tree House. She will talk non-stop if you don't distract her. She is full of ideas, stories, musings and advice for anyone who will listen. She has a great vocabulary and is both eloquent and (seemingly) logical when she expresses her feelings or argues her case. Her self confidence allows her to offer her advice, unbidden, to adults in public. Although I wouldn't choose this behavior, I have to admit, she is always respectful and complimentary of new people she meets. She is independent and wants to do things on her own, explore by herself and take on more than she is ready for.

She learned to swim this summer and is very proud of the new ability. We are taking family dance classes. She seems to have a talent for dance and song, but sometimes she just can't sit still for the group learning experience. She is very social and loves to have new people around as often as possible, but when playing she seems to form one-on-one bounds rather than being part of a gaggle of girls. She is funny and bright and energetic. And full of surprises! I'm so proud to call her my daughter and thrilled to spend time with her.
